Can Anyone Tell Me How Someone Gains Us Citizenship?

By Networking Security Posted in: security job

I have a Mexican friend who moved her when she was in fourth grade, and she will be 18 in August.
Because she doesn’t have a social security number or anything like that, she doesn’t get paid much at all. She (and all of her family) get paid under minimum wage. She want to drop out of high school to work to support her family, but I want her to graduate for job purposes. Because she will be 18 soon, can she get US citizenship and how (We live in Tennessee, if it matters.
)? Also, I’m afraid that if she gets citizenship they will be like, “Were do you live?” and she’ll say, “With my parents,” and they will say, “Are your parents legal citizens? What about your brothers and sisters? And your nieces and nephews? What about your sister-in-laws?” Will that happen? I don’t want her whole family sent back to Mexico.
Thank you in advance! (:

I would guess from what you write that she and her family are all illegal immigrants.
What happens when she turns 18 is that she will now be regarded as an adult by the law, and therefore she herself will be responsible for staying illegally in the US. Her best option is to return home before she turns 18.5 old, so she would not have a ban before she can try to return legally to the US.
If you are willing to pay her out-of-state tuition fees she probably could get a student visa as long as she gets out in time and gets accepted. I think community college would work too.
If she indeed came without a visa, she cannot become an US citizen before going back to her home country first. She doesn’t exist officially in the US, so she can’t gain anything. The only rather recent exception would be if she gets married to an US soldier in a genuine marriage (parole-in-place)

I can understand that you don’t want your friends sent back, but if they came here illegally, that is what should happen to them.
Do you know how difficult it is to become a naturalized citizen? We honor those who do it legally. Those who break the law deserve no favors.

Stand in line where it says IMMIGRATION above the door.

You have to apply for a greencard from your home country. How did she enter the US, if she is caught in the US after 18.5 and she came in illegally or entered on a tourist visa (you’re supposed to leave before it expires) she will face a 10 year ban if caught. There isn’t really a way for her to become a citizen because her parents ignored the law when they entered the country.
“Because she doesn’t have a social security number or anything like that, she doesn’t get paid much at all.”
-She isn’t allowed to work in the US without a SSN or Tax ID number that they give to permanent residents.
There is a process that EVERY immigrant must follow. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/…
    see this website for information.
-Note to asker, even if the “Dream Act” did pass which would make her eligible for citizenship, her parents and anyone that was over 18 when they entered would still be deported. The Dream Act is not a good idea.
