I just got My new computer and I’d like to transfer the files from the old to the new. I put all necessary files on a flash drive and I’m ready to transfer. I am concerned because most of the files are music that was downloaded through P2P and torrents (most of it tranferred to my old pc from a friend). I am worried that if there are corrupted files, my new computer will get infected. I have Microsoft Security Essentials on the new pc. Is there any way to scan these files prior to upload, and do you think it will be safe for me to upload the files?
TL;DR
I want to transfer files to my new pc, but i’m worried there may be viruses, what should I do?

Is the New PC Running Windows 7?
If so just Open the USB And scan everything (right click, Scan)
If it’s an older OS ‘Autorun/play’ May still be enabled so..
the moment you insert it.. It could potentially infect the Pc.
Disable Autorun, insert USB, Scan it, Re-enable autorun if desired.

MSE is a good free virus protection. It should check them if any viruses. One good thing about a brand new computer, is that if there is any virus, you can always reinstall your windows and not lose anything. (bc its new and there is nothing on it)
Most ant–virus software allow you to target a scan. So you target the drive with your files for a scan.
Contrary to what John says, there is no such thing as a good free anti virus, A V G internet Security is the go.
