Did I Remove The Spyware Protection 2010 Virus Effectively?

By Networking Security Posted in: security systems

late last night, a program that I didn’t authorize installed itself on my computer, presenting itself as a security program named Spyware Protection 2010 that was obviously a scam. I couldn’t open any other programs or do anything on my computer, and it reported many more viruses on my computer than I really had.
I eventually subdued it, downloaded MalwareBytes, and ran my computer in Safe Mode to run a full system scan using that program. I removed 4 “infected” files in this way.
Do I have anything to worry about now? From what I read its a major virus, so I don’t know if that did the trick. Are there any steps or precautions I should take?

If you can access your programs again then you shouldn’t have much to worry about. MalwareBytes is good software. But if you want to be extra safe, open up task manager and look at what processes are running. You should try to know where each one comes from. If one doesn’t lead to a program you trust and it doesn’t go to your System32 folder, then try Googleing the name of the process to see if you should get rid of it. You should also check your startup programs by typing “msconfig” in the start menu run box. Try to familiarize yourself with the stuff because even if they aren’t viruses, they may be slowing down your system unnecessarily.
