.exe Files Not Opening?

By Networking Security Posted in: application security

I had the Win 7 Security 2012 virus on my system. I went into Safe Mode, killed the process, and then deleted the file in the folder. Afterwards, as it was recommended, I went into repair mode and recovered my computer. However, now none of my .exe are opening. Every time I click on them, they just go to the “Open with” window. And in the case of Microsoft Word, it just says “Application not found.” How can I fix this?

I just fixed my neighbors computer that was doing the same thing. Google “open exe files with command prompt” and follow directions.

If you are displayed annoying ‘Open with’ dialogbox, try following this guide:
    1. Click Start.
    2. In the Search box, type CMD and then press Enter.
    3. Type attrib and press Enter. Command will return drive files you should “cure”.
    4. Type command attrib -s -h -r *.* This will simply reset all the files in the drive.
    5. Delete all the files having the SHR attribute, just type del file.extension
    6. Restart your computer.

Hmm, might be a fake message. The virus might be detecting an exe opening, killing it, and displaying a fake “unknown file type” error. I wouldn’t be able to help you with that. Go to best buy and ask geek squad to fix it. If you dont have a warranty, get ready for a huge bill. If they say get a new computer, ASK FOR THE HARD DRIVE BACK!! They WILL phisicly shred ALL the data on your computer WITHOUT your consent!!

You haven’t 100% repaired your system – hiding your applications is something the virus does.
follow the instructions here to fixhttp://www.computer-answers.ca/2011/comp…
