i have been looking around and i have only found one antivirus for the Mac that has realtime protection. that is iantivirus from pctools. now i am not a fan of pctool products. on my windows pc every security app from these people failed to stop viruses and the program it self blue screened me a few times. I want a free antivirus with realtime protection for Mac. is iantivirus The only free option that has realtime protection? i love avast for windows but avast for Mac has no realtime protection so i am not so sure about it. i know antivirus is not necessary for the mac i have ran windows and Mac both antivirus free for years. never had a problem. i just want to check some of these programs out. just to experiment with if nothing else. the only thing i know i want. is free and realtime protection. any suggestions?

You are correct in that you need no antivirus if you are a safe computer user. There hasn’t been a MacOS X virus in 4 years and just a handful of trojans. There is also ClamXav which will slow a Mac down since it also checks for the 1,000,000+ Windows viruses. There is a 30 day demo of MacScan which will search for the trojans and tracking cookies. That’s all I know about.
