How Do I Set Up Security For My Wireless Router?

By Networking Security Posted in: internet security

I’ve been having problems with people getting on/using my internet service which is slowing me down. What can I do to secure my router that is already installed?

assuming it’s ur router and not an integrated ISP router then
connect to the router via cable not wirelessly
your router has an ip address that you can connect to its control panel through a browser.
you can configure the security from the control panel.
they r generally intuitive but the router should have a manual to walk u thru it.
if not google the router make & model to find the directions.
after configuring, go back to wireless and configure your desktop(s) with the security
    info (generally a pass phrase)
viola, ur done. shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes

You have to setup a special password that people will have to enter in order to access your network. The best kind of encryption is known as WPA2. You can set this up on your router.
Another useful step to take is to hide your SSID, which is the name of the network – this can be done on the router as well.
For a little more in-depth information, and some step-by-step instructions on how to set this up, you can visit http://securaid.com/index.php/network/wi…

Ok, Start off by putting in your URL bar 192.168.0.1, somewhere in there you should be able to set a password. every device which has previously connected will now be disconnected and asked for the password, this will ensure only the people you want to let in get in :)

What is the manuf and model number of your router? Do a search for the doc for it, or look at the hard copy that may have come with it. There will be instructions on how to access it and set up your security/password access.

    1) Secure your wireless router administration interface
    2) Don’t broadcast your SSID
3)Enable WPA or WPA2 encryption instead of WEP
    4) Use MAC filtering for access control
    5) Disable remote administration
