I’m 23 years old and I would really like to go back to school. I’ve got a few considerations for subjects I would like to study. One of which includes pursuing a PhD for Paleontology. So assuming I choose to pursue that I’m looking at 6 to 8 years of college most likely. I currently work full time as an overnight Security Guard and I have some bills I have to pay, so cutting back to part time really isn’t an option right now.
How hard is it to balance a 40hour a week job with full time school as well? Like I said I work overnights so I could probably attend evening classes. But would I have any time what so ever to myself? Is a full time job and full time school doable?
Thanks for any help.

Most of our graduate students have full-time jobs. It’s certainly doable. It might take you a little longer. You’ll also have to look at when the courses are offered in your field. We teach most of our graduate classes in the evening. But in some departments, the graduate classes are all in the afternoons, because their students are on assistantships and teach in the morning.
That sounds like a lot. Dont do 40 hours Do part time. Even part time work can be stressful because like your studying and all of a sudden its like uh oh time to work and then u leave your studies.
Studying more and working less is my advice for you. Also minimum wage can happen anytime.
A lot of people do it. You might have to sacrifice sleep and fun.
