I Had A Virus Which Messed Up My D Drive, Now Ive System Restored All The Files Are ‘hidden’…help?

By Networking Security Posted in: security systems

Windows 7 home premium… antivirus = Microsoft Security Essentials…
Did a system restore in safe mode (it was too unstable to access programme normally… I heard you can’t undo this way)
I had my D drive look completely blank, yet if I clicked on ‘recent items’ in Word and other programs they would come up…After scanning the drive it was scanning items that were supposed to not exist before. I have now made sure that the D drive ‘shows hidden items’ but I am still worried about the harddrive as it seems to fail to create a backup copy anymore (to an external harddrive) and I occasionally get an annoying security alert about a Java2010 CVE thing… What steps to take to guarantee minimal damage? Can I ‘unhide’ previously hidden items?
thanks! – exhausted student

The best way to reset the attribute of the “missing” files on your system is with a program called Unhide. You can get it free at: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t…
Just download it and run it, It will search your system and reset the hidden files so that Windows can find them correctly.

Install total commander go configuration->options->display and check show hidden files. Find and mark files witch U want to unhide, go files->change atributes, and uncheck hidden and system
