My mom filed papers for my stepdad to obtain green card. My stepdad recieved his social security card and work permit about a month ago. But my mom isnt sure if he’s genuine about his marriage to her. She wants to withdraw her application for adjustment status. But if she withdraws , will my stepdads social security number become invalid ?
His Social security card has a stamp on it “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.”

What your mom and stepdad did is file for “Adjustment of Status” (AoS). Part of this process is an interview unless he arrived with a fiance visa, the K-1. Once the interview is over and the petition is being approved, your step-dad will be a Green Card holder. Until this happens, your mom can either withdraw the Affidavit of Support (form I-864) she submitted, or, actually, all she needs to do is NOT go with your stepdad to the interview. Without your mom, his AoS petition will be denied, plain and simple.
His SS card will remain valid, but once his EAD expires, he won’t be able to work any longer because his SS card is restricted. The EAD is his DHS authorization, and it will expire fairly soon.
He will not get deported, but he will be out of status.
Frankly, your mom’s biggest problem will be to tell her husband that the party is over, and that’s where I can’t help you with any advice.
Yes if he has a conditional green card, all that will happen IF your mum withdraws her support……maybe mum needs to go with her gut on this matter………..if she thinks he is only around for the green card she is more than likely right.
she can withdraw from the proceeding when she files for divorce
and does not attend the interview ….
he will be ordered out
His SSN is his for life ..but need the EAD to work
Yes. Unless he adjusts for status and gets his green card because they get a divorce.
Always listen to your gut
