I’ve looked all over for a definite answer to my question, but I didn’t find anything.
I have a Windows Vista HP laptop with wireless connectivity.
Recently, I got fed up with all of these folks leeching off of my internet, so I changed the security settings from none to WEP. It worked find on my Windows 7 laptop (the one I’m using currently), but it didn’t go so well on my other one.
I changed the properties on the laptop to match up with the router‘s but it still didn’t work.
I switched to WPA, WPA2, and back to none, and it still didn’t work.
I reset the router to factory default settings, and it STILL didn’t work.
The error said something like cannot connect to *insert SSID* here. Get closer to the access point or try connecting to another network. Every time I tried diagnosing the problem, it didn’t come up with anything. Repairing didn’t work either.
I tried restarting the router and the computer multiple times. I tried disabling and re-enabling the network bridge it has. I’ve tried changing the settings of the router so many times.
I tried all I could think of, but nothing’s happening.
It’s not a probably with the wi-fi compatibility, because the computer can connect to other networks (just not the internet because of security stuff).
It just says right away that it can’t connect to my network and to diagnose the problem.
It there anything else that I can do to try to make it work?
I am trying to transfer all of my files from one to the other, and using the internet is the fastest way to do it.
I also use it as a bridge for my Xbox LIVE, so I sorta need it to be connected to get my money’s worth.
Thank you in advanced!

Man you tried a lot of stuff. I had a similar episode with my internet. What I ended up doing was unplugging my modem and router. Then I pressed and held a button on each for about 10 seconds. This lets all static electricity out and sort of hard resets it in a way. Then I reset the router to default by pressing the little button on the bottom in with a paperclip. I re did all of the wireless settings on my laptop and it seems to work fine. And you should probably take a break from it for a while, I know how those things can drive you crazy for a while and when you clear your mind, the solution is sometimes right in front of your nose. If you still have no luck send me a message if you want and we can try to figure this out.
Why do you have a bridge?
Disable to bridge, leave the wireless on, but disable the bridge (You should only be using 1 wireless connection anyway).
Bes bet is to contact your wireless router customer support, Internet provider, or ur computer companies( who makes computer)
