Last night I got this Win 7 Security 2012 -fake AV-program virus and spent many hours to fix it. It started last night around midnight, I was just google-ing something and the fake AV program started. In the first moment I thought that it was real but then I realized that that the actual virus is the program itself. It didn’t let me start any programs, so I switched into safe mode with networking and friend (on the phone), which had a working computet told me what to do because my browsers didnt work anymore. Soon he found the registration keys for the program and I typed them in and the program was gone. I started to check it with SpyHunter and it found 140 dangerous files, I couldn’t remove it because I would have had to pay for it. So I tried Malwarebytes-Anti Malware and it found 2 dangerous files (both spybots (or something which sounds like that lol)). I removed them from my Laptop but I am not sure if everything is gone because SpyHunter showed me 140 dangerous files and Malwarebytes just 2 (and Microsoft Security Essentials found nothing…ZERO…0!!!).
Because my Laptop is a brand new VAIO I decided to set it back to the factory setting with a VAIO Care tool I think it’s “recovery wizard tool”.
After the 2 hours it was finally done.
Now my questions. Do you think its gone now? I mean it said that it deled EVERYTHING of my hard drive.
Do you think it could be in bios? If yes, what could I do to remove it?
And just wondering, I use my laptop for online banking and other “important” stuff, how high is the risk that they got my bank account data‘s if I didn’t check my bank account during the fake AV-program started? I am really worried because it could have cause a huge damage!
I’d like to hear about your “fight against that virus aka scareware” and how you faught against it and if it ever came back!
Thank you!
