We have a progressive tax system to help the poor and lower income families. Then we started social security and medicare to insure that lower income people would be able to retire and have health insurance. Then we add food stamps to help the poor. Then we started government subsidized housing. Then we start helping them pay their utilities. Now we are going to provide them with free health care. We’ll even help them go to college. Yet they still stay stuck in poverty or low income brackets.
When is enough enough? Where do you draw the line? None of it seems to help. You keep saying if we give them just a little more it will help them. Yet they still can’t get them selves out of poverty. They just continue on their same path and ask for more more more.
It’s just like a spoiled kid who can’t/wont hold a job or manage his money. Sooner or later the parents have to cut the kid off and make him take responsibility for his actions.

I have always adhered to the belief that:
IF you give a man a fish (entitlement programs, free stuff)…you feed him for a day and make him even more dependent upon the source of entitlement.
If you teach a man to fish, you feed him and his family for a lifetime.
If you teach a man to fish and sell his catch, you not only feed this man’s family, but his employees and those he sells the fish to.
Liberalism and the ponzi schemes they concoct have never worked…they just advance the power of the giver, while bankrupting the source of the money.
You provide the defense for wealthy Western European countries and you don’t care. You provide health care for millions of nonAmericans while Americans die because of lack of preventative health care and you don’t care.
I’m not a liberal by any stretch, but our leaders using our tax dollars to flood the nonAmerican world with money makes me madder than anything else.
WTF cares what the Brits do, idiot?
I sure have had enough of big business making a buck off screwing over the american people. Deciding who is worthy of health care. I sure have enough of this whining about taxes they don’t pay anyway. I have also had enough connie bs to last me a thousand lifetimes. You have convinced me to become a full fledged socialist and loyal Democrat.
Spoken as a rich guy.. The US is gradually turning into a monarchy. Currently 5% of the US is holding 75% of the money. That means that 95% of the country is surviving on less than a 1/4 of the over all.. They know that they can’t literally starve us out , or else they won’t have anybody to serve them. Capitolism is a tough game, but you still have to throw your scraps to the servants or else they die and their are none left to worship the rulers
And should anything happen to you or your family you would be right in there with your hand out wanting your crust of bread complaining about how small it is.
Other answerers have an EXCELLENT point.
If you want to complain about how the money is spent… start with all the money that goes to foreign militaries.
How else am I going to get my liquor and lottery scratchers???
But you’re right, on a smaller scale, the same negative, unintended consequences were achieved with the Americans With Disabilities Act. A majority of Americans with disabilities are against it!
none of it seems to help?
the poverty rate overall has been dropping for decades… almost every one of those ideas has been followed by a decline in the poverty rate?
how is it not “working”?
The key part of your question is AMERICANS, not liberals or conservatives, not left or right, but AMERICANS!!!!
1). put the AMERICAN people at odds with each other through party lines, have them constantly arguing and bickering with each other about political issues so that they are DIVIDED AND CONQUERED socially. Create animosity publically so people are ready to fight with one another. Allow AMERICANS to become addicted to drugs, don’t protect the border, bring in as many illegals in the mix as possible, let the crime rate sky rocket,,,,,,
2). spend their money frivolously, carelessly, wastefully, etc. i.e. The stimulus bill that has so many earmark spending that’s not intended to help the people or the country, rather to help the politicans help themselve to our money. Then spend even more… http://www.readthestimulus.org
3). bankrupt the country by any means necessary, bailouts, health care, economic crisis, send more money overseas, unemployment, increase taxes, increase the costs of everything, etc. (but the politicians have money to spend millions on campaigning?)
4). have groups of people solely dependent on government programs to live, relying on the government, and suddenly STOP those programs completely. Including, electric, gas, water, and health care.
5). The elite will only survive…. no lower, middle, or upper classes, just them! What a better way to take over a country than from within? It’s it all about absolute and total control, POWER. They got us right where they want us. They have a plan, there is an underlying hidden agenda as to what they are doing, have done, and intend to do. It’s so obvious!!! You can see it by their actions and behavior…. get prepared now, be prepared.
After seeing that guy with 23 kids from 5 or 7 women and a ho in Detroit with 28 kids all getting welfare, I think we should round all them bums up and put them to sleep.
enough of what?
of the Ruling Class who, after all, really make all of the decisions.
Since you asked I think we should tell the 2% who own most of the wealth in these hard times that they have enough. Or too much. We can`t afford them.
YOU ARE 100% RIGHT!!!
Some people can not be helped…….We are just producing more & more leeches that think we OWE them……..
Brits pay out 50% of their GDP in Entitlements.
You pay yourselves 2% and believe it’s the reason you are
in debt!
Americans are going to tell libs what they think in about 4 weeks
Well, dork, not being greedy, I have more than I need. Not being jealous, I don’t compare what I have, or don’t have to what other people have. I just can’t get all bent out off shape over this as you do.
I focus on a goal — a healthy, educated workforce for a stable and productive nation. What do we need to do politically to ensure that happens. Plunging people into poverty or deeper into poverty doesn’t serve that goal. The impoverished eventually become unemployable and that only leads to other problems. Working against the health and well being of the population doesn’t do it either.
Despite your fed-upness one of us may be thinking and one of us may be emotional.
Wow, what a generalized overrationalization you’ve made.
In typical Conservative knee-jerk reaction…. complain about the “cures” and offer nothing constructive to help with the “symptoms”.
I have yet to meet a “poor” person whose been given this “free ride” of subsidized food, housing ,health care and finally continued education that graduated and went back to being at or below poverty level.
But apparently we should just do nothing, practise tough love and let them sort it ou themselves, right? In the meantime don’t go bitchin’ to the cops about some criminal who just broke into your home and robbed you so he could feed his family.
When will Americans finally say enough is enough?
When there are no more poor people.
Most of those programs are used by people who ARE working, but don’t have jobs that pay them enough to get by. They’re called the “working poor”.
And the “rich kid” who is spoiled STILL has more opportunity after he’s cut off, than the working poor have to lift themselves up.
Opportunities to “get out of poverty” are quite limited if you’re poor. Working 2 part-time jobs at minimum wage and raising young kids doesn’t leave much time for schooling/college to get a better job, if those jobs even exist in the local job market, and you know someone who can help get your foot in the door.
Not all circumstances are equal, for everyone.
Americans said enough was enough in 2008!
The MAJORITY of Americans elected President Obama and the Democratic Congress in an OVERWHELMING LANDSLIDE in 2008 (365 to 173 in the Electoral College), and the MAJORITY ARE VERY HAPPY with the job they are doing.
