Which Country Do You Think Would Be More Of A Regional Threat With A Nuclear Bomb – Iran, Or Saudi Arabia?

By Networking Security Posted in: Network Security

If Iran were to possess a nuclear weapon, I seriously doubt they would dispense such technology to terrorist networks or use it to attack Israel directly. If either of these scenarios were to take place, the regime in Tehran would be dust within weeks. On the other hand, the government of Saudi Arabia has stated that they would seek to acquire a nuclear weapon if Iran were known to have developed one. Make no mistake about it, I find the idea of Saudi Arabia possessing a nuclear arsenal of any sort to be far more disturbing than anything Iran could ever have. The ruling House of Saud is all about making a quick buck, and relies on the hardliner Wahhabi sect of Islam to retain power in the deeply conservative Arabian lands of Hejaz and Nejd. I could easily see them being persuaded into selling a nuke to a regional oil company for the right price; if such a transaction were to occur, the prospect of a Sunni terrorist organization acquiring a nuclear arsenal would become a very real possibility. Imagine the disastrous implications this might have for Iraq, putting Shi’ite cities like Najaf or Karbala at risk of losing their very existence. It would also be detrimental to the security of Israel, Turkey and, ironically, Iran. The Middle East as a whole would be in jeopardy.
Honestly, I’ve contemplated whether it’s a good idea to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb simply to avoid giving Saudi Arabia any incentive to make one of their own.

Saudi Arabia. I have no idea why the west is allies with them. Persians are pretty free wheeling and moderate compared to Saudis.

Iran would be the graver threat by far. the clerics in both countries are nuts, but the saudi royal family is somewhat more responsible with their power than the crackpot in office in iran.
the saudis are all about the money, and therefor easier to predict. no one knows what the hell ahmedinijad will do next.

universally available nuclear weapons would threaten the historic imperialist war slaughter industry !!

The Saudis are a bigger enemy, just not as big a one as the US government.

I don’t think either country would do anything stupid if they were nuclear-armed.
Governments aren’t usually suicidal. Giving a nuclear weapon to a terrorist group would end the House of Saud as well.
I’m more concerned about a nuclear failed state, which makes Pakistan far, far more troubling at the moment.
“no one knows what the hell ahmedinijad will do next”
Which doesn’t really matter. He’s largely a figurehead. The Ayatollah has the real power.

Saudi Arabia would be a larger threat if they wanted to attack the US or another country, however, they have a whole lot more to lose by doing so. That would probably start a WW and if they lost such a war they would lose their wealth and their oil. The super powers would invade their country like ants on a jelly sandwich. Besides that the Saudis are nothing with out the USA we buy their oil. It is a love hate relationship.
Many of the people in Iran would turn against the dictatorship there because they want their freedom and beautiful culture back. This alone should give the little dictator pause.

please distinguish between sunni and extremist Wahhabi (Salafi)
Sunni Muslims are good to shia. look at Egypt Muslims. they are very similar and friendly with shia.
but Wahhabi love to kill shia. they believe who kill 10 shia will go to Heaven.
they believe if they bomb shia and themselves be killed with eat lunch with prophet in Heaven. their brain is completely washed and they are all hate of shia.
Wahhabi is wolf in cloth of ship.
bin laden Al-Qaeda Taliban all are Wahhabi.
Wahhabi is in fact supported by Israel and England to destroy Islam.
Ashura day keep the message of Hussein (sa) alive to reach all humans.
Husain (sa) wanted to send his message with his blood to all the world and to all the humans.
    the message of Hussain is:
there is two different Kind of Islam.
the pure Islam of prophet and Islam of Yazid (Ummayids) who celebrated killing of Husain (sa) the Imam and real Caliph of their time.
    Husain (sa) said:
with Yazid, Salam [bye] to Islam.

the only reason iran is in the news is the zionist agenda of greed of wall street , corporations , and the bankers , need to fake an excuse to raise the price of oil to $250 a barrel , so they can rob the middle class working man yet again .
the solution is for the 99% to vote for a president and congress that salutes a flag with FIVE pointed stars , not six

Saudi Arabia would love to nuke Israel.
    So would Iran.
    They hate each other too.
Depends who drops it first I guess.
I agree the Iranian people are friendly but the Govt is a Theocracy that would love to dispense of Christianity. Both nations are Muslim, with the leaders of Iraq primarily from the Sunni branch, and the Iranians, the Shiite.
Looking around the region at the end of the 1970s, Saddam also saw an opportunity to establish himself as the leader of the Arab world. The historic leader was the ruler of Egypt, but Anwar Sadat had been ostracized for making peace with Israel. The Gulf States had money, but were militarily weak. Syria was militarily strong, but financially weak.
The Arabs and Persians (natives of Persia, mostly descendants from places other than Arabia) have been historical rivals dating back centuries. Iran and Iraq, while under British and Turkish rule, also had a number of border disputes. In particular, the two have disputed control of the Shatt al-Arab, the major waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Iranian ports of Khorramshahr and Abadan, and the Iraqi port of Basra.
There was the nine year war between Iran and Iraq and much too much to discuss here. Lets just say they like each other as much as the Browns and the Steelers.
