So my home was broken into a while ago, and after the robbery everything is taken care of. However, I’m a bit hesitant about living there and would like to rent it out. I have money to install a security system, a security door, and I have filed insurance to get everything back. So nothing is really “stolen” except for maybe my peace of mind about living at home. I lost nothing of real value except maybe a watch that was given to me for my birthday.
However, I suppose I just want to know what generally people do when their home gets robbed. Do they take precautions -like just purchase security system, install better locks, etc – and continue to live there? Or do they take steps to moving out?
Edit: I also tried to search for what people generally do after a robbery. To my amazement, nothing can really be found except for maybe articles about how to prevent break ins or some scary stories about more robberies to come.

You just need to move on, what has been done has been done and you need to take action to prevent the possibility of it happening again. Install an alarm system that will automatically call the police and ensure that all doors and windows are locked when you’re not at home.
Yes, I would, but I’d get a shotgun, a dog, some curtains, and some new locks. So, it’s okay to rent the house to someone after it’s been burglarized, but you don’t want to live there yourself? Have you checked to see if it’s legal to fail to disclose that to a potential tenant, or are you just a heartless bastard?
Lightning never strikes twice in the same place, same goes for robbery, I would feel more at peace living in a house that has been robbed that in one to be robbed because the thief’s know there are extra precautions, security system, cameras, etc…and they do not take the risk.
hmm some just take precautions if it was me i would move out since you will be always paranoid
Uh…if your house was broken into, it was burglarized, not robbed.
